Officials at USC University Hospital announced that the hospital has received four United Premium Specialty Center designations for 2007 to 2009. The hospital received designations for its Cardiovascular Surgery, Electrophysiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Surgical Spine programs.
The designations mean that the hospital has met rigorous quality criteria based on nationally recognized medical standards and expert advice.
"We are pleased that USC University Hospital has been recognized by UnitedHealthcare for the high quality that we provide, " said Debbie Walsh, chief executive officer of USC University Hospital. "Our physicians and staff work very hard to provide quality patient care, and these designations are evidence of the high standard of care we deliver every day."
The UnitedHealth Premium Specialty Center designation program identifies surgical spine, total joint replacement, and cardiac facilites that meet specific criteria and recognizes them for their commitment to quality health care. These designations are based on detailed information about programmatic structure, patient care processes and clinical outcomes that are submitted by the hospital to UnitedHealthcare.
The information-based program is designed to help consumers make more informed choices in selecting high-quality, cost-effective care. Because of UnitedHealthcare's commitment to quality, a facility must first meet the quality criteria before it is evaluated for efficiency. In California, facilities are evaluated and designated for quality only.
