As one of our new public relations initiatives through the Tenet Healthcare Foundation, USC University Hospital will be working closely with the LINC TELACU Education Foundation, an organization which provides scholarships to young Latino nursing students. In support of their endeavors to reach the Latino community, USC University Hospital and USC/Norris Cancer Hospital were represented at a Health Career Fair sponsored by the LINC TELACU Foundation. USCUH is one of several Tenet facilities who have teamed up with this organization. To date, Tenet has funded close to $1 million in scholarships to nurses at Pasadena City College through LINC TELACU.
Several hundred local area high school and middle school students attended the career fair and were educated about career options in nursing and other healthcare professions. Glenna Traiger, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Manger of Volunteer Services and Patient/Guest Relations, Kai Tramiel, and USC/Norris Marketing Staff were also on-site distributing educational materials and answering questions about potential opportunities within USC University Hospital and USC/Norris Cancer Hospital.
The primary objectives of the collaborative efforts between LINC TELACU and UH are to infuse minority youths with an enthusiasm for healthcare professions and to support nursing students and professional nurses in their career choice. As an ongoing commitment to providing these opportunities to the Latino community, we are proud to team up with the LINC TELACU Education Foundation, an organization that has thus far awarded up to 33 scholarships, stipends and/or book grants to 2nd year nursing students within the last two years.
